
Michelle Obama fought back tears as she urged a group of schoolgirls to be confident about their future success.
First Lady reached out to pupils during solo visit to school. The US First Lady choked up as she took to the stage to speak at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in Islington, north London.
She told her audience they had "very much" in common with her as she talked about her background.
"I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them," she said.
"I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity. Whether you come from a council estate or a country estate, your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude, we are counting on every single one of you to be the best that you can be."
After her emotional speech, Mrs Obama leant over the stage to hug as many pupils as she could, causing hysteria among the excited girls. Sabrina Chowdhury, 16, who was one of the first to get an embrace from the US President's wife, said: "It was amazing, she is amazing.
