Director Anthony Abuah (26) who brought us the brilliant stage production 'Another Biafra’ has taken it to the big screen again, this time with his debut feature film ‘WOOLWICH BOYS’. Set amidst the Nigerian crime scene in Woolwich (S.E. London) during the early noughties - the young Wale (who recently arrived in the UK from Lagos, Southern Nigeria) is enticed into a life of ’419' crime (419 is the common Nigerian colloquialism for ‘fraud’) Wale teams up with an old friend by the name of TJ and his "colleagues" and the fraudulent crew set about on a mission to achieve financial wealth, gain notoriety and enjoy women in abundance - however they soon come to realise some harsh truths about each another.
The film is released under Abuah’s production company ‘Tales From The Motherland’ and I urge you to go out and support. It's set to be a corker I just know it. The Woolwich Boys premiere will be screened at the ‘Stoke Your Fires Film Festival’ on Wednesday 15th February 2012 at the Mitchell Arts Centre from 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and the evening includes a Directors Q&A. This is just another fine example of the UK taking it by force in 2012.
