Of her influences she says...
“Raphael Saadiq is one of my biggest influences, when he came to London I booked my ticket immediately. I stood right in the front row and sang along. Raphael heard me and gave me the mic. The audience went CRAZY. It was such an amazing feeling. The following year he invited me to perform at his concert in London” …can you imagine?

After dropping her free mixtape "Therapy" at the tail end of 2009 and gigging with The Truth moveMENT, Obenewa kicks-off 2011 with the launch of her own debut EP." Song writing…I guess works in my favour, I give you the truth & raw feeling. I love & hate it because it leaves me so vulnerable… My EP describes snapshots of my life. I called it ‘Once upon a time’ because I feel it’s the beginning of a new chapter on my musical journey.”
